Fancy a career in fashion? Sydneysiders can now kick-start their design skills at a new fashion school and gallery space. The Fashion and Textile Gallery, located in Surry Hills, offers classes in everything from sewing for beginners to the art of millinery.
A combined venture between Dreaming of Dior author Charlotte Smith, and artist Penelope Leonard, The Fashion and Textile Gallery caters to everyone from the complete novice to more advanced students. Learn how to draft a pattern, create a shoulder bag or brush up on your sewing machine skills under the watchful eye of a qualified teacher. Aspiring Lagerfelds can also hire essential equipment such as sewing machines, industrial overlockers, cutting tables and dressmaker’s mannequins.
Beyond the DIY hub of the Sewing Room, The Fashion and Textile Gallery is also an educational facility for emerging designers, hosting exhibitions and lectures related to the fashion industry both in Australia and abroad.
