Wardrobe crisis? Style stress? Fashion director Fiona Lane is here to help

building a work wardrobe

After having my son 10 months ago, I am returning to work but have no idea what the current trends are. I like tailored clothing but also want some fun accessories - can you help?
When you start building a basic work wardrobe I always think it is important to keep colour to a minimum. Black, beige, grey and white are great colours that work back with almost anything and will be the mainstays as you expand your wardrobe. Right now I would look for a great blazer or tuxedo shaped jacket, a classic, lean man style pant and a simple black dress. A beige or black trenchcoat is also a great investment as it looks great over a simple dress or trousers, and spend as much as you can afford on one great shoe and wear it with everything rather than buying more cheaper ones. Later, try using bright orange into the mix, but it is essential that you get your basics perfected first.
