Wardrobe crisis? Style stress? Fashion director Fiona Lane is here to help

dressing for an apple shape

I am an apple shape and put all my weight on my tummy. I do, however, have skinny legs and a small bum. My top half is a size 18 and my bottom half varies from 12 - 14. I am trying to lose weight but can you offer me some advice in the meantime?

If your legs are in good shape, stick to leggings. You can find ones with extra elastic that will hold you in a little. Another fashion-forward option is the new style harem pant which hide heavy thighs. Keep the top long and lean, which means no oversized shirts as they add too much bulk (unless worn open as a jacket). But look for longer line tops, layer tanks and t-shirts, or try a longline, sleeveless jacket as this streamlines your torso and is still lightweight enough to wear over a tank and leggings. Look for a lightweight and crumpled trench and wear it open over two layered tanks. The key is to layer and focus on those parts of your body or that work best for you.
